Aardvark Pots
Aardvark Pots was started here in Thunder Bay in 1974 by Jane and Bill Eames. Our pottery is high-fired stoneware which is lead-free (any lead would vaporize at our firing temperature) and is very durable. We are particularly known for Jane's brush decoration, especially the commemorative plates. Bill's thing is glaze formulation, hence our somewhat unusual colours.
Jane originally trained as a sculptor at the Harrow School of Art and the Camberwell School of Art and then worked in a studio pottery in London and also taught at Sir John Cass College where she met Bill who was a math lecturer/pottery student.
Her work was exhibited at the Royal Academy, Young Contemporaries and other galleries around London. She taught at Lakehead University for seven years and also in the community. Jane and Bill were among the original members of the Art and Craft Market and Jane was one of the original members of Fireweed. Bill was a co-founder of the Lakehead University Pottery and on the original board of Fusion, the Ontario Pottery Association. Jane also served as a board member and was the Northern director.
